How to integrate Truelist with Mailchimp
Truelist has a direct integration with Mailchimp that validates your subscribers and tags them with their email verification results. This guide walks you through setup and day-to-day management.
How the integration works
When you connect Mailchimp, Truelist fetches your audience members and runs each email address through its full validation pipeline. Once validation is complete, Truelist tags each subscriber in Mailchimp based on the result:
- truelist-valid — The email address is valid and safe to send to.
- truelist-risky — The email address may be valid but carries some risk (e.g. disposable, role address).
- truelist-invalid — The email address is invalid and should not be sent to.
- truelist-unknown — Truelist could not determine the validity of the email address.
Only one tag is active at a time per subscriber. You can use these tags in Mailchimp to segment your audience and suppress invalid addresses from campaigns.
After setup, Truelist can validate your list automatically on a weekly basis, or you can trigger a sync manually at any time.
Step-by-Step Installation
Go to Settings → Integrations in your Truelist account.
Click Set up on the Mailchimp integration card.
Click Authorize with Mailchimp.
This redirects you to Mailchimp, where you will be asked to grant Truelist access to your account.
Follow the Mailchimp prompts to authorize the connection.
Once authorized, you will be redirected back to Truelist. The integration is now active.
Managing the Integration
After setup, you can configure the integration from the Mailchimp settings page in Truelist.
Selecting a list
Use the List dropdown to choose which Mailchimp audience you want Truelist to validate. If you have multiple audiences, select the one you want to keep clean.
Sync settings
Use the Status dropdown to control how syncing works:
- Enabled, sync automatically — Truelist will validate your list on a weekly basis without any manual action.
- Enabled, but sync manually — Syncing is enabled but will only run when you click Sync now.
- Disabled — Syncing is paused. No new validations will run until you re-enable it.
Syncing now
Click the Sync now button to immediately kick off a validation of your selected Mailchimp audience. Truelist will only validate email addresses that have not been validated recently. Existing results are cached and re-used based on your revalidation settings.
Deleting the integration
Click the Delete Mailchimp integration button to remove the connection entirely. This stops all syncing and removes Truelist’s access to your Mailchimp account. It will not delete any data in Mailchimp or Truelist — your existing tags and validation history are preserved. You can reconnect the integration at any time.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often will my Mailchimp list sync automatically?
When set to automatic, Truelist will sync your list once per week.
Will Truelist re-validate subscribers it has already checked?
Yes. Truelist re-validates existing subscribers according to the revalidation period configured in your validation settings. The default is 60 days.
Can I validate my list on demand?
Yes. Click Sync now on the Mailchimp integration settings page to trigger an immediate validation run.
What happens if my Mailchimp audience is deleted?
If Truelist cannot find the selected audience during a sync (e.g. the list was deleted in Mailchimp), the integration will be automatically disabled and you will receive an email notification. You can reconnect and select a different list at any time.
Will the integration affect my Mailchimp subscriber data?
Truelist only adds or updates tags on your subscribers. It does not modify any other subscriber data, delete subscribers, or unsubscribe contacts.
